Pickleball bye calculator
A doubles court holds four players. This calculator shows how many courts can run and how many players sit out each round.
Bye formula
Active courts = min(available courts, floor(players ÷ 4)). Byes = players − 4 × active courts.
Example: 13 players and three courts use 12 playing spots, leaving one bye. Thirteen players and two courts use eight spots, leaving five byes.
When is a consecutive bye unavoidable?
If the previous round had more bye players than the next round has playing spots, at least one must sit twice. With nine players on one court, five players had a bye and only four can play next, so at least one consecutive bye is mathematically unavoidable.
